Approval of avian quarantine centres and facilities

In accordance with regulation 10 and Schedule 8 (part II) of the Animals and Animal Products (Import and Export) (Laboratories, Circuses and Avian Quarantine) Regulations 2007, the Secretary of State hereby publishes the figures used to calculate fees in relation to Avian Quarantine.

  • Application to Import Captive Birds - £270 per consignment
  • Avian Quarantine Centre/Facility Approval - £121 per centre/facility
  • Application to Lift Suspension of Approval - £103 per licence
  • Application to Amend Approval Conditions - £103 per amendment

In order to ensure that the conditions of your quarantine centre/facility approval are being met, Animal Health will from time to time be required to carry out an inspection of the premises.

Regular inspections will also be required upon the arrival of a consignment of birds in to quarantine. All inspections will be charged at the following rates per hour per inspector –

  • Veterinary Officer - £73 per hour

Examples

In the examples below all inspection costs are indicative only, and actual inspection times may vary according to the premises and the birds examined. Inspection times include travel time.

Example 1

A quarantine manager applies to have a facility approved as an Avian Quarantine centre –
1 x Avian Quarantine Centre/Facility Approval £121
4.5 hours VO inspection time £329
Total £450

Example 2

An importer wishes to bring 50 bustard chicks to England from Brazil -
1 x Application to Import Captive Birds £270
15 hours VO inspection time £1,095
Total £1,365

Example 3

An approved premises has been altered to accommodate more bird housing. The quarantine manager applies to have the terms of the approval amended to include new buildings -
1 x Application to Amend Approval Conditions - £103
3 hours VO inspection time - £219
Total £322
