Sheep EID - Central Point Recording Centres (CPRCs)

In England and Wales, Animal Health approves markets, abattoirs and collection centres who wish to act as Central Point Recording Centres (CPRCs) for the recording of individual details of electronically identified sheep on behalf of keepers moving them to these premises.

Central Point Recording Centres (CPRCs) allow for individual animal information of electronically identified sheep and goats to be read on behalf of keepers sending sheep and goats to approved reading points, such as markets and abattoirs, instead of keepers having to read individual numbers as animals leave the holding. Because of this, many keepers will not have to purchase electronic reading equipment. The information CPRCs supply back to keepers will assist them to meet their recording requirements under the SAGRIMO 2009 legislation (See Below).

In England and Wales Animal Health also work with the Meat Hygiene Service (MHS)/Food Standards Agency (FSA) in providing approval for abattoirs who wish to provide this service for keepers moving electronically identified sheep to slaughter. The Local Authority will provide assistance to the applicant in creating a working contingency plan, if required.

A list of CPRCs (PDF 36KB) approved by Animal Health has been developed and is available for download.

For further information on the requirements to register and identify your sheep, including electronic identification, see our sheep and goats page.
